“A good hockey player plays where the puck is, a great hockey player plays where the puck is going to be” –Wayne Gretzky. This quote describes perfectly Thomas Chabot and his playing style. Thomas Chabot is a very special hockey player, and in this article we will take a closer look on the blossoming young blue-liner.

Thomas Chabot was born on January 30th 1997, in Saint-Marie, Quebec. As we fast forward to his years of Midget AAA with the Levis Commendeurs, Chabot was an average player, registering 26 points in 45 games (6 goals and 20 assists). In the 2013 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL) entry draft, Chabot was selected 22nd overall by the Saint John Seadogs. In his first year with the Seadogs Chabot put up 22 points in 55 games. The next year, he had 41 points in 66 games with the club, doing much better than the season before. But in the playoffs he had only one point in 5 games. Also during that season Chabot went with team Canada to the world U-18 Championships, and with 5 points in 7 games he helped Canada earn a bronze medal at that tournament.

The next summer Chabot was drafted 18th overall in the 2015 NHL draft by the Ottawa Senators. With the Seadogs in 2015-16 Chabot registered an impressive 47 points in only 45 games. However in the playoffs he hd an outstanding 21 points in just 17 games. In the middle of that season Chabot had also attended his first World Junior Championships with team Canada in Finland, and had only 3 assists in 5 games played. The following fall, Chabot attended the Senators’ training camp and played in the pre-season and made his NHL debut on October 18th 2016 vs the Arizona Coyotes. Chabot was sent back to the Seadogs to play the 2016-17 season.

The following boxing day Chabot played his first of 7 games with team Canada at the World Junior Championships 2017 in Montreal. During the tournament Chabot’s play was stellar, putting up 10 points in his 7 games played. Following Canada’s devastating loss to the USA in the finals, Chabot was named tournament MVP and the tournament’s best defenceman

This season Chabot has played 27 games for the Seadogs, and already has 8 goals and 30 assists, dominating play in the QMJHL, and now, we wait to see what he will do with his career
